บทคัดย่อ

บทความนี้กล่าวถึงความเป็นมาของรูปการเขียนคำไทยที่แต่เดิมเขียนได้หลายแบบ ดังที่ปรากฏในเอกสารโบราณหลายฉบับ แต่เมื่อถึง พ.ศ. ๒๔๗๐ ได้มีประกาศให้หน่วยราชการใช้ตัวสะกดแบบเดียวกันตามปทานุกรมของกระทรวงธรรมการ เพื่อประโยชน์แก่การสื่อสาร เมื่อราชบัณฑิตยสถานรับหน้าที่ทำพจนานุกรมต่อมาอีก ๔ ฉบับ ก็ได้มีประกาศให้ศึกษาเล่าเรียนด้วย ผู้ใช้ภาษาจึงต้องเปิดดูพจนานุกรมอยู่เสมอเพื่อให้เขียนได้อย่างถูกต้องตามแบบราชการ ในปัจจุบันมีคำใหม่ ๆ เกิดขึ้นอย่างมากมาย ส่วนใหญ่ยังไม่ปรากฏในพจนานุกรม และอาจจะเขียนตามอักขรวิธีไทยหรือแบบอื่นก็ได้ จึงมีการนำเทคโนโลยีเข้ามาช่วย ด้วยการสร้างพจนานุกรมฉบับออนไลน์ และโปรแกรมช่วยเลือกคำที่เหมาะสม

Abstract

This paper traces how the inconsistency in spelling of Thai words in old documents was stopped in 1927 by order of the Office of the Majesty’s Principal Private Secretary. For the sake of communication, all documents from various offices had to use the same forms issued by the Ministry of Education. Later on, the Royal Institute (now the Royal Society) supported this mission and published four versions of official Thai-Thai dictionary, with additional advice that correct spelling be studied in schools. Language users have to consult the current version for the correct spelling. Currently, there are many new words not yet included in the dictionary. Moreover, some may not follow the official orthographic rules. Today, with the help of technology, the online Thai-Thai dictionary of the Royal Society has been introduced, and some programs have been developed to help select the appropriate words.
